Are you interested in robotics or believe a robotics ETF would be a good fit for your portfolio? Investing in ETFs is a good way to increase the diversification of your portfolio. On our platform you can find a wide selection of robotics ETFs.
Not every robotics ETF is the same. ETFs differ from each other in several ways, such as fund size, price, risk and underlying value. For example, they may track different companies or indices. Also, some may pay dividends and others may not.

What is an ETF?
ETFs, also known as trackers, are funds that follow the performance of an index, commodity, bond or composition of products. Unlike some other funds, ETFs are bought and sold on a stock exchange. Would you like to learn more about ETFs? Read our ETF article for all you need to know.
Robotics
The field of robotics focuses on automation, i.e., producing and programming machines or computers than can take over jobs previously done by humans, or perform tasks that humans can’t do. Robots are programmable machines that perform physical tasks independently. Robotisation can greatly increase production and productivity, with ever more sophisticated production processes.
Robots can now perform all kinds of tasks much faster, more precisely and more reliably than humans. This is true, for example, in logistics and the auto industry, where most tasks are now done almost entirely by robots. Robots are also increasingly being used in the military, aerospace and health care. Robotisation plays an increasingly important role in the household as well. This trend is expected to increase significantly in the future.
Why invest in robotics ETFs?
Robotics ETFs are an interesting investment option for those who want to follow the development of robotics and automation. An increased number of tasks will be performed by increasingly sophisticated robots, which can greatly increase profitability and economic growth. Several business sectors are heavily involved in robotisation. One of those sectors is the chip industry. Companies like Nvidia and AMD are included in most robotic ETFs. Other companies are sectors like advanced home appliances, consumer products, industrials, healthcare and aerospace.
Robotics FAQs
Some leading companies in the robotics industry include:
- Intuitive Surgical (ISRG): A company specialised in robotic-assisted surgical systems.
- ABB Ltd (ABB): A multinational corporation that provides robotics, automation and power technologies.
- Fanuc Corporation (FUC): A Japanese robotics company known for its industrial robots and factory automation solutions.
- Yaskawa Electric Corporation (YEC): A Japanese company that manufactures industrial robots, motion control systems and robotics-related products.
- NVIDIA (NVDA): While primarily known for its graphics processing units (GPUs), NVIDIA is also a major player in AI and robotics technology, providing hardware and software solutions for autonomous systems.
BOTZ (Global X Robotics & Artificial Intelligence ETF) and IRBO (iShares Robotics and Artificial Intelligence ETF) are both examples of ETFs that focus on the robotics and AI industry. Here are a few differences between them:
- Holdings: BOTZ and IRBO have different holdings, meaning they invest in different companies within the robotics and AI sector. The specific composition of their portfolios may vary, leading to potential differences in performance.
- Expense ratio: The expense ratio of BOTZ and IRBO may differ. Expense ratio represents the annual fee charged by the ETF provider for managing the fund.
- ETF provider: The provider may have different investment strategies, tracking indices, or approaches to manage the ETF.
As of July 2024, the largest robotics ETF is BOTZ - Global X Robotics & Artificial Intelligence ETF (IE00BLCHJB90). It has been one of the most popular and widely traded ETFs in the robotics and AI industry. However, it's important to note that rankings and sizes of ETFs can change over time due to market movements and investor preferences. It's recommended to check the latest data from reputable sources.
