What is an ETF?
ETFs, also known as trackers, are funds that follow the performance of an index, commodity, bond or composition of products. Unlike some other funds, ETFs are bought and sold on a stock exchange. Would you like to learn more about ETFs? Read our ETF article for all you need to know.
Large cap stocks
Large cap stocks are shares of companies with a high market capitalisation, typically representing some of the largest and most established businesses in the market. These companies often operate globally and may hold leading positions within their industries. Examples can include multinational technology firms, financial institutions, healthcare companies and consumer brands.
Large cap companies are generally considered more mature and financially stable compared to smaller businesses. Because of their scale and market presence, they may benefit from diversified revenue streams and stronger access to capital markets. As a result, Large cap stocks are often viewed as a core component of long-term investment portfolios.
The performance of Large cap stocks can be influenced by economic growth, interest rates, corporate earnings and global market sentiment. While they may sometimes experience lower growth potential than smaller companies, they can still be affected by market volatility and changing economic conditions.
Why invest in Large cap ETFs?
Large cap ETFs provide a way to gain exposure to some of the world’s largest publicly traded companies without needing to select individual stocks. By investing in a diversified basket of Large cap companies, you can access broad market exposure through a single investment product.
One reason to consider Large cap ETFs is the established nature of the companies included within these funds. Large cap stocks are often associated with businesses that have long operating histories, global brand recognition and significant market influence. Many of these companies generate revenue across multiple regions and sectors, which may help reduce dependence on a single market or industry.
Global Large cap ETFs may track widely followed indices such as the S&P 500, MSCI World or other major benchmarks composed primarily of large-capitalisation companies. Some funds focus on specific regions, while others provide international diversification across developed markets.
However, there are also risks to consider. Large cap ETFs remain exposed to stock market fluctuations and economic uncertainty. Some funds may have concentrated exposure to certain sectors, such as technology or financials, which can influence performance during different market cycles.

- Opening an investment account with a broker, such as DEGIRO.
- Searching for the ETF by name or ticker symbol.
- Reviewing key details (price, risk level, index tracked, underlying holdings).
